Role Overview
The Data Center Engineering Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design, assessment,construction management and supervision of the Data Center site infrastructure systems (Mechanical,or Electrical, ELV). The position requires firm knowledge of best practices and engineering principles for the design, construction and operation of telecom facilities, computer rooms and data centers.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet with client to determine availability project requirements.
- Engage with the Design Team on overall design process and coordinate with engineering experts to
improve design based on lessons learned from site activities. - Accountable for coordinating and supervising implementation and construction works in accordance with established international standards.
- Coordinate with Design and Installation teams and respond to inquiries and support in design development and in construction.
- Review total power requirement of IT and Cooling loads and verify capacity and specifications for mechanical equipment, Air/Water cooled Chillers, Cooling Towers, TST, CRAH, CRAC, AHU, FAHU, FCU,VRF, VAV, Chilled Water Pumps, etc.
- Verify design of site layout for the Mechanical equipment as well as the cooling distribution.
- Study Client’s systems specifications, understanding MEP systems performances and the nature of their features and functional specifications.
- Provide insights on Electrical systems (Generator, Transformer, ATS, UPS, etc.) that relate to data center spaces and M&E support facilities.
- Provide insights on Security systems (CCTV, Access Control), Public Address/Voice Evacuation, FirebAlarm, and BMS solutions that relate to data center spaces and M&E support facilities.
- Perform site inspection, act as a site engineer and generate documents and punch lists specifying areas of shortcomings and recommendations for enhancements.
- Review and approve material and shop drawings submittals.
- Supervise installation of mechanical equipment.
- Supervise testing and commissioning activities to make sure systems are well integrated and working properly as design intended.
- Report periodically on the status and progress of his/her activities and achievements to his/her directmanager.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in his area of work.
Requirements
- Have 1 to 3 years of Data Center design or construction experience on enterprise projects, providing
consulting and engineering solutions in many markets namely Telecom, Banking, and Data Center Service providers. - Knowledge of the whole project life-cycle; design, execution, system selection, testing and commissioning, and at each stage in between.
- Knowledge in Tier topologies, Uptime Institute guidelines and TIA 942 standards.
- Knowledge in design and configuration of Electrical or Mechanical systems and components.
- Must be able to work independently and in concert with designers, engineers, and technology providers.
- Ability to foster innovative solutions within the project team to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to have a good impact and influence key decisions.
- Excellent customer service mindset. Must be able to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders and sponsors on projects.
- Highly desired to have experience in dealing with technology providers and OEM vendors such as Trane, York, Carrier, Daikin, Vertiv/Liebert/Emerson, Grundfos, Armstrong, KSB, EATON, MGE, Schneider/APC, Kidde, MERO, STULZ, Bosh, ABB, GE, Cummins, Caterpillar …
- Microsoft Office: Word /Excel / PowerPoint/Microsoft VISIO/ AutoCAD/REVIT
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and easily with end users (English/ Arabic), especially in conflict situations.

- To be able to ensure most or all advanced certifications in related track/field such as: Uptime Institute
- Accredited Tier Designer (ATD), Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Specialist (ATS), Uptime Institute
- Accredited Operations Specialist (AOS), BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), Certified Data Center Specialist (CDCS), Data Center Design Workshop (DCD), Data Center Operations Management (DCOM) and Design Accredited Professional LEED AP.
