Job Overview:
We are looking for a motivated and hardworking Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. As a Commis Chef, you will assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes while learning from senior chefs in a professional and supportive environment. This is an entry-level position ideal for candidates passionate about cooking and eager to grow within the culinary world.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with basic food preparation (chopping, peeling, marinating, mixing, etc.)
- Follow instructions from the Chef de Partie or other senior kitchen staff
- Set up and stock workstations with necessary supplies and ingredients
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of your work area at all times
- Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and rotation (FIFO system)
- Support the kitchen team in preparing ingredients for service and mise en place
- Assist in plating and garnishing dishes under supervision
- Comply with hygiene, sanitation, and health & safety standards (HACCP)
- Learn and absorb kitchen techniques, recipes, and best practices from senior chefs
- Help with cleaning duties and kitchen closing procedures as required
Qualifications:
- Basic culinary training or diploma is a plus
- Previous kitchen experience is an advantage but not mandatory
- Eagerness to learn and grow within a professional kitchen
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a team
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Flexible and willing to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene standards
